The joint consists of steel chain and hardware, with aluminum end caps to reduce weight. The king pin is 2\" in length. Five chain links provide 3.75 inches of separation, pin to pin. Each of the 12\" handles is hand turned on a lathe, and is tapered from a 1\" diameter at the cap to about 1.25\" at its widest. Two or more coats of wipe-on polyurethane protect the wood from moisture and provide a uniform grip. Despite the name, it is not a true rosewood (\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eDalbergia\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e); it belongs to the legume family, Fabaceae. Its heartwood ranges from reddish brown to deep violet-brown with dark, nearly black streaking, and it turns to a fine, lustrous surface.
